The AVID Binder
Organization is one of the keys of success. The AVID binder is an organizational tool to help students maintain notes and school work in one place. Students are expected to maintain a three inch binder (or larger) organized in "The AVID Way."
At first, student binder evaluations will be for organization only (Does the student have all the required materials in his/her binder?). As the elements of the AVID program are implemented, students will be evaluated on organization AND whether they have all of their materials for every class in their binder. The binder will be evaluated weekly and taken as an assessment grade.
Student binders should be organized in the following manner:
1. Plastic supply holder
2. Binder grading sheet. Each class period should have its own section in the AVID Binder, and they should be set up in the order of the student's schedule. The AVID section of the AVID Binder should be set up in the following way:1. Handouts 2. Cornell Notes 3. Tutorials 4. Grade Info. Each Core subject area in the binder should be organized according to the teacher's (of that subject area) procedures.
If the Core teacher does not specifiy, the section should be organized chronological order with the newest assignment on top.
