Costa's three levels of questioning helps students reach higher level thinking.
Example story illustrating Costa’s three levels of questioning:
Level 1: You go to Grandma’s house. Everything you see is a level 1. (Answer is right there in front of you, you can look it up.)
Level 2: In the bedroom, you wonder, “What’s under the bed? What’s in the dresser?” (Investigate)
Level 3: In the attic, you open up a box and find an old fur coat. You wonder, “What was the animal (that the fur was made from)?” (Imagine)
